On occasion Smiles by Burgess needs to refer you to a specialist for further treatment. All of our referral partners will provide you with best care possible, as they represent us as well as us them.
If we find your third molars have either impacted or broken through the tissue, you may be in need of wisdom teeth removal. Even if there is no visible damage, it can already have occurred without you being aware of it. Even if they are not impacted, or colliding with the adjacent teeth, they could be just as prone to periodontal disease.
We provide age-appropriate referrals to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to have a consultation and discuss with you what steps you should take with your wisdom teeth removal.
We actively monitor each patient’s “bite” during our routine semi-annual examinations. If we see that a child or young adult needs teeth straightening, we are happy to refer those with more complex cases to several orthodontists that we work closely with.
Occasionally, your children’s dental needs may be more severe or their anxiety is extreme, and more advanced sedation and treatment options may be necessary. Your children may need to be managed in a specialty setting, and we can refer your children to several pedodontists in our area.
TMJ, or temporomandibular joint disorder, is often diagnosed in patients who have pain the jaw muscles, headaches, and other types of facial pain. If you suffer from these regularly for more than a month, along with problems opening your mouth, chewing, and clicking/popping noises in your jaw, we refer complex cases to Dr. Prehn, Houston’s local TMJ specialist.
